Coastal Erosion Works at Grassy Point, Indented Head have recently been completed.
We have been monitoring the shoreline retreat immediately to the east of the Grassy Point Boat Ramp and estimate the shoreline has retreated 10 metres over the last 4 years.
The potential for the Coastal Trail to be damaged by the eroding coast has prompted us to install a sand fence as a trial at this location and to renourish the beach with additional sand. The new sand will also be revegetated to help stabilise the dune.
A sand fence is a cost-effective permeable barrier made out of natural timber which provides the right conditions for the beach to recover.
The effectiveness of the sand fence will be reviewed in summer. The works have been funded through revenue generated from Bellarine Bayside’s local holiday parks.
