We recently partnered with Barwon Coast to facilitate an outdoor education program with students from Mathew Flinders Girls Secondary College.
Forty year nine students headed down to 13th Beach to research the importance of coastal dune preservation and the problems that effect dune stability.
The group learnt about the dynamics of coastal processes within and outside the bay, the effects of weed invasion and their impact on these dynamic and fragile environments. They also heard about the plants and animals that rely on the ecosystem of our beaches and dunes along. Students gained a greater understanding of the important role that coastal managers – and the wider community – play in caring for our coast. It was a great day out for our team members as well as the enthusiastic students!
