Bellarine Bayside wants to provide you with not only the best holiday experience, but one that gets better every year. To do this we need to improve maintenance, campground amenities and the environmental values of our reserve. One of the key components of our planning is risk assessment. The safety of our holiday park patrons and visitors to our parks is of the utmost importance and underlies every decision we make.
This approach has led us to the difficult decision to remove 30 ageing cypress trees at Portarlington Holiday Park. An independent arborist’s report has confirmed that the trees need to be removed as there is a risk of branch breakage and potential injury to campers or damage to caravans, cars and camping equipment.
Feedback from our recent consultation indicated that the replacement of the trees is a priority for many of our campers and neighbours.
Bellarine Bayside has engaged a landscape architect to prepare a landscape plan to guide the landscaping of the sites after tree removal. We intend to use quick-growing native trees, and advanced specimens where supply is available, and sites will be re-established using a mixture of instant turf and grass seed. This remediation will take place immediately after the tree removal.
The good news is that we anticipate that ocean views will be improved with the removal of the cypresses.

The tree removal will take approximately one month and will be completed before the commencement of the school holidays on 19 September.

Why don’t you remove the gum trees as I’ve seen them fall and damage vans at the park!!!

Extremely disappointed to lose our shade….massive price rises over recent years have not been reflected in park facilities. We have been coming to the same site for many years. Will there be a rate reduction for the loss of shade? Due to the lack of shade will shade structures greater than 3×3 m be allowed and will they be allowed forward of the bollards on the front row?

I fully support the removal of any dangerous / hazardous trees to improve the safety of campers. However these trees provide a substantial amount of shade for my family & others through out the hot summer. Children play, elderly rest and everyone gathers under these trees as the park doesn’t provide sufficient amount of shade near the beach. If these trees are to be removed, I highly support replacing them with already grown trees to provide families with shade or build shelters along the grass area of the beach fronts. After all you have raised the prices enough to find these facilities. Just like the new ammenities we were promise 10+ years ago etc etc the list goes on..
