Bellarine Bayside has planted over 600 local endemic species in our seasonal camping reserves this winter. The planting project was initiated following last summer’s survey where an overwhelming number of campers requested additional shade.
The species selected, including Banksia marginata (silver banksia) and Melaleuca lanceolata (moonah), are local species that will thrive in these conditions. Careful consideration has been given to the location of these plantings to limit the impact on coastal views, whilst also framing site lines.
Over time these trees will provide a lower canopy than the existing large trees, however this will add to the amenity of the camping experience and the wider use of these areas as a community asset.
