As reported in the local media over the weekend an Australian fur seal headed up Harding St on Friday afternoon and has been a regular visitor since.
Bellarine Bayside staff rallied to help herd the seal back to the shoreline. Police and animal welfare services were called and it did not take long for a crowd to appear. Australian fur seals come ashore to moult at this time of year and the public are reminded that they should not approach within 30 metres of a seal on land and dogs are not permitted within 50 metres. It is also illegal to touch or feed these animals.
A big thank you to everyone who helped out on Friday and over the weekend.
