Bellarine Bayside recently hosted a community wildflower planting day at Lower Bluff on Sunday 26th July coinciding with Planet Ark Tree Day. Over thirty community members attended and helped plant 1200 wildflowers contributing to an exciting addition to the Lower Bluff area. This project has been on-going for two years and has culminated with the planting and direct seeding of many grassland and wildflower species. This spring the site should be alive with new growth from these plantings. After completion of the planting the St Leonards Fire Brigade assisted to water in the plants, and it was great to see this small volunteer brigade supporting the planting day. Their engagement with the community and Bellarine Bayside resulted in recruitment of a new member.
Community planting days are a great platform for the public to liaise directly with Bellarine Bayside staff and to explore and identify potential new options for the Bellarine Peninsula. So mark the next one in your diary at Portarlington Foreshore on Sunday 30th August.
