As managers of the northern Bellarine foreshore Bellarine Bayside is active in revegetation and controlling environmental weeds along the coastline. Recently we removed several Pittosporum undulatum trees from the Lower Bluff area. Pittosporum undulatum establishes very quickly and starves surrounding plants of nutrients, water and sunlight. It also changes lizard and bird populations by decreasing the habitat for these species. Our winter community planting day this year was well attended by local community members and saw in excess of 2500 local endemic species planted at Lower Bluff. Bellarine Bayside is very appreciative of the community support to these revegetation projects and it’s encouraging to see last seasons plantings really starting to dominate.
If any member of the community wants to be involved or would like any further information on this project or any other environmental project please contact Bellarine Bayside by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 5254 4000.
