Be alert! Plovers are currently nesting on our beaches.

RED CAPPED PLOVER CROPPEDThere are many recent reports of plovers nesting on our beaches. Please be aware of these birds on our shoreline and give them space while they are nesting. Their speckled eggs are laid in a shallow depression in the ground, often beneath a low shrub, or out in the open if near water. Here in Portarlington we have been sent a video of a red-capped plover trying to distract walkers away from her nest. You can view it here (thanks to John Pearce for sharing).
